Freedom Fest
July 4th
Join us for Freedom Fest in Goreville, Illinois—a beloved annual celebration that ignites the hearts of locals and draws visitors from across the United States.
Freedom Fest began with a simple idea back in the late 1970s: to bring the community together and celebrate the birth of our great nation. Goreville native, local business owner, and then Ruritan Club President Mike Walker played a pivotal role in setting the foundation for this cherished event. Fast forward to today, and Freedom Fest has become a favorite tradition for Gorevillians and an exciting attraction for over 3,000 visitors each year.
Here’s what you can expect during this red, white, and blue extravaganza:
Gospel Show and Home Town Parade: The 4th of July kicks off with a soul-stirring Gospel Show, followed by a lively parade that winds its way through the heart of Goreville.
Evening Extravaganza at Goreville City Park: After the parade, head to Goreville City Park for an afternoon and evening filled with festivities. The park comes alive with activity:
- Free Concert: Local bands take the stage, playing toe-tapping tunes. Families spread out on picnic blankets, enjoying the music under the open sky.
- Food Vendors: Savor the flavors of summer with mouthwatering treats from food vendors. Whether it’s classic funnel cakes, juicy burgers, pulled pork or refreshing lemonade, there’s something for everyone.
- Local Businesses: Explore booths set up by local businesses, showcasing their products and services. It’s a great opportunity to support the community and discover hidden gems.
- Fireworks Spectacular: As dusk settles in, the night sky erupts in a dazzling display of fireworks—one of the largest, small-town displays in Southern Illinois.
Remember, Goreville Freedom Fest is family-friendly and fun for all ages. So mark your calendar, grab your lawn chair, and join the festivities—it’s a day of joy, patriotism, and community spirit that you won’t want to miss!
